He was a doctor, a priest, and a musician. But more than any title, he lived simply as one who loved. In Tonj, South Sudan—one of the poorest and most devastated regions—Father Lee Tae-seok gave his all. With no expectation of recognition or reward, he remained there for one reason only: to share the love he had received from God.

1. Who Was Father Lee Tae-seok?
Born in 1962 in Busan, South Korea, Father Lee Tae-seok studied medicine and served as an army doctor. Later, he entered the seminary and became a Catholic priest. During seminary, he heard about missionaries working in South Sudan and was deeply moved. He made a life-changing vow: to serve where help was needed the most.
He kept that promise. In 2001, he left for Tonj, a remote village in South Sudan afflicted by war, disease, and poverty. With almost no infrastructure or clean water, the people lived in unimaginable conditions. And yet, Father Lee chose to dedicate his entire being to them.
